I had the great pleasure of attending a very unique workshop yesterday at Metropolis Gallery (Namatjira Workshop). The gallery is currently presenting an exhibition, ‘Namatjira: Regeneration’, showing a new generation of artists from the Western Arrarnta region, many of whom are descendents of Albert Namatjira.
The workshop was with Lenie Namatjira, Albert’s grandaughter. We watched her paint, which she did in a very meditative way, resulting in a beautiful watercolour landscape of somewhere that she obviously pictured very clearly in her mind. My attempt at painting in that ‘Namatjira’ style, was not quite as accomplished!
It was challenging painting in watercolours, a medium I don’t normally use, but I really enjoyed the whole experience. It’s always interesting to move out of the comfort of your own style and attempt another’s.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
