I was lucky enough to go to a talk given by the artist Joseph L Griffiths. He was talking to a group of art student and was happy enough to give up an hour and a half of his time just to chat and answer questions. His work is amazing (currently showing at Boom Gallery as part of their ‘Works on Paper’ exhibition), ranging from the most exquisite pencil drawings, which, he admits take him days to complete, to major installations (floating) in Docklands, Melbourne.
He is still in his twenties, but is slowly becoming recognised on a more global scale. Recently returned from 12 months in Europe with support from the Australia Council for the Arts, he said that the most important thing is to keep learning and developing new skills. He was probably the most genuine, gracious and down to earth artist I have ever met!
